Digital Competition with SmoothShow

Collect the Images in a Folder

  1. Create a Folder on your desktop named with the Division and Month (example:    GSCCC Nature July 06).
  2. Collect all the CDs from each of the camera clubs for the division to be judged.
  3. Check to see that they are all named correctly so you can identify the image, the    photographer, and camera club.
  4. Copy all the images from the CDs to the folder.

Load Images Directly From a CD
You may load the images directly into SmoothShow from each CD as you receive them.

Putting Images into SmoothShow For the First Time

  1. Double click on the SmoothShow icon to open program.
  2. If aTip of The Day box appears, click OK. Then a Get Started box will appear
     in middle of screen: Click the X in the upper right-hand corner to kill the box.
  3. At the top of the screen check the Continuous Loop box.
  4. In the menu bar, click Tools>Options.
  5. Find the Hold Time box and click the down arrow until Manual comes up
  6. Find the Label Style box and click the down arrow and select a style. Plain 2D
      
    works well, but you can choose any that you like. . Click OK.
  7. The above steps are one-time events. You don’t have to do them in the future.
  8. Click File>Show Startup Menu and the Get Started box will re-appear.
  9. Click Use the Wizard to Start a New Show.
  10. Another screen will open. Click on Folder Icon in lower right.
  11. Scroll down to Desktop folders and click on folder or CD with images you wish
     to put into the show. Click OK and then click Next.
  12. On this screen, click No Transition Effects......click Next.
  13. On this screen the ‘no music track’ should already be checked, so just click Finish.
  14. The images in the selected folder or CD will auto load into SmoothShow and will    be auto numbered with the numbers displayed on the top left corner of each image.
  15. To save the show click File>Save As then name your show and click Save.

Adding Images to an Existing Show

  1. Double click on the SmoothShow icon to open the program.
  2. If aTip of The Day box appears, click OK. Then a Get Started box will appear in middle of screen: Click Reopen Your Most Recent Show (or Open a Previously Saved Show and select the show you previously created and click Open).
  3. Select the last slide in the list and then click Slide>Insert in the menu at the top of the screen. Go to the location where the folder or CD where the new images are stored, select them, and click Open. The new images will be inserted at the bottom of the list and numbered accordingly. If you want to change the order of the images, select the one you want to move and click the up or down arrow above the list.
  4. SmoothShow allows you to move forward or backward in the show, except you can’t back up from the last slide, only forward to the beginning slide. If you wish to solve this problem, you can insert a blank slide as the last slide. Then you can back up from the last image.
  5. Save the new show by clicking File>Save or File>Save As and rename it as a new show and click Save.

Judging a Competition with SmoothShow

**You will need to make a master list of all the digital images to be judged which should include the SmoothShow number, image title, photographers name, camera club, and a place for a score.**

Judge Competition From Within SmoothShow

  1. Click on the SmoothShow icon to open it, and if a Tip of The Day box appears,   click OK. When theGetting Started box appears, click on Open a Previously   Saved Show. Select your show and click Open.
  2. With your show open, click on View at top left of screen menu bar. From the drop  down menu, click on Slide Show. If the first image doesn’t appear, left click the black screen.
  3. Judge the images.
  4. To move forward to the next image - left click with mouse.
  5. To move back to the previous image - right click with mouse.
  6. To exit the full screen mode - press ESC

Judge Competition From a CD

Burn a CD of Your Show

  1. Open SmoothShow and open the competition show.
  2. Insert CD into your burner
  3. Click File>Package Show. A new screen will open.
  4. Click Package to CD/DVD Writer
  5. Uncheck any other boxes that may be checked
  6. Check Include SmoothShow Player and created CD autoplay files. No other   boxes should be checked.
  7. Click on Package on upper right of screen
  8. Program will burn CD and tell you if it burned successfully.
  9. Click Done

Conducting the Competition from the CD

  1. Insert CD into the computer. The show will automatically run.
  2. Move to the next image with a left mouse click
  3. Move back to the previous image with a right mouse click
  4. Press ESC to exit the program.
